Morning at the garbage dump

This is about as close as you can get to making vultures and garbage look attractive. Early in the morning after the hyenas have picked through the town waste, the vultures arrive and scavenge what they can. They also congregate at the hyena feeding places for bits of bone and meat that the hyenas have overlooked. Hooded vultures here are about as common as crows in Australia and when the sun is shining in the heat of the day, they circle over Harar, riding the thermals that push up off of the rooftops. They’re very economical flyers and beautiful to watch.
